Automated Essay Scoring (AES) is used internationally, especially in the United States, in a range of high stakes testing contexts. There are good reasons for Australian schools to investigate the use of AES, and good reasons to be cautious.
Please join Professor Kalervo Gulson (Australian Research Council Future Fellow, University of Sydney) and Professor Greg Thompson (2022 SSSHARC James Fellow, Queensland University of Technology) for the launch of a whitepaper and accompanying policy brief about the use of AES in Australian schools. This will include a panel discussion with stakeholders from diverse sectors responding to the identified issues, questions and recommendations. Audience discussion time will follow where we invite everyone to collectively think through the benefits AES may bring and the potential pitfalls.
