AI (and education) Policy Commons

AI (and education) Policy Commons

In the rapidly evolving landscape of educational technology, the integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) presents both opportunities and challenges. Understanding how governments perceive and govern AI as a tool in education is crucial for shaping future policies that can effectively harness its potential. The AI Policy Commons was developed to address this critical need, offering a comprehensive and dynamic platform for analysing and visualising policy trends related to AI in education.

This AI Policy Commons is built around three core components:

Qualitative Analysis Database: At the heart of the prototype is a robust database that stores detailed records of qualitative analyses conducted on policy documents from various regions worldwide. These analyses focus on identifying how governments are thinking about and regulating the use of AI in education, offering insights into both the promises and concerns surrounding its adoption.
Global Contributor Form: Recognizing the importance of diverse perspectives, the application features an interactive form that allows contributors from around the globe to input data directly into the database. This collaborative approach ensures that the analysis reflects a wide array of contexts, making the findings more globally relevant and comprehensive.
Interactive Dashboards: To make the data accessible and actionable, the application includes a series of user-friendly dashboards. These dashboards provide multiple views of the data, allowing users to explore trends, compare policies across different regions, and gain insights into how AI is being integrated into educational systems worldwide.

The AI (and education) Policy Commons is an ongoing project led by the Education Futures Studio. As the project continues to evolve, it aims to serve as a vital resource for policymakers, educators, and researchers who are navigating the complexities of AI in education. By providing a platform that combines rigorous analysis with global collaboration, this application seeks to contribute meaningfully to the development of informed and equitable AI governance in education.
